My purchase has been a great in improving my effectiveness in harvesting honey. I can fill my 9 and 18 frame extractors and while they are spinning I can uncap enough frames to fill them again when that cycle is complete. Very easy to roll to my hot room if I need to leave a load prior to extracting.
I recently purchased a 40 frame uncapping tank and I am super glad I did. Last year I was using one of the gray plastic tanks and the difference is night and day. The long tray to catch cappings is an exceptional feature. I uncapped 12 supers and after spreading them out it held them all. The ability to have uncapped frames resting in the tank while awaiting loading the next load into the extractor really is a time saver and speeds up the process. The only thing I would change is to make the pin in the bar about 1/2 inch longer. The ear on the frames tends to catch on the crossbar when turning it to uncap the other side of the frame. This is undoubtedly the best uncapping tank available at any price. One you will be using and be happy with for many years to come.
This new upgraded tank is the S H I T...that's grunt talk for it's cool as hell...I got the Big 40incher for my Wife and all the bells and whistles are thought of by HillCo in this tank.....the biggest selling point for us was the wheels and of course the money saved compared to the Maxant MUT and shipping made this a steal....also the insert that catches the capping's is the whole length of the tank and will hold tons of capping to let drip is A+...it sits right next to our new Mini-Max...this is another Homerun for Hillco and be sure to get on the waiting list...you will love All the HillCo's products....this is no exception...
I have this in the 40" version and and a different brand with just a deep basket that has quite less realestate for decappings to fit in; I like this particular decapping tank as you can spread the cappings horizontally vs vertically and have the honey drain faster thru the wax decapping as it is less in thickness and honey will drain faster downwards to the bottom of the tank; also, the other brand tank I own rob me of the working decapping space, where as with this one, you have the option to shift the "pin bar" a few inches both sides from the center of the tank; one modification I did, I added casters to this one, the other brand had casters when I purchased it, it was an extra cost I was willing to vest in for the convenience of wheeling the unit around. So far I am impressed with the tank, I do run anywhere between 100-150 production hives aside from all the nucs and supporting hives I have so to me it is a big deal how smooth and easy I make my life when I have to extract, without diving into thousands of dollars investment for a honey extracting line.
Just used this peice of equipment for the first time yesterday, and it completely changed our entire process in the honey house. We used to have to wait till the extractor was done to start the uncapping process but not anymore. We used this tank with the simple harmony farms uncapper and it was flawless. With the uncapper mounted to the tank we could hold around 23 frames while the extractor was running.
We knocked 4 or 5 hours off our time from last year and processed over double the pounds of honey. Drains easily and cleans up easily.
If you're looking to process more honey in a shorter time definitely pick up this uncapping tank! Game Changer!
